With over $10 billion shopping turnover in one day, last friday wasn't exactly a "black friday" for either the sellers or the buyers, except ofcourse the credit card holders who got robbed by their wives and kids or husbands and kids.
I missed the early morning 4am shopping spree this year unlike last 3 years here. When eventually got a chance to shop, most of the deals were gone by Saturday. But thinking about it, like zillion other things, this sale is bigtime hyped all over the country. Sales actually go on regularly over the entire year, especially after-Xmas is the best time to shop for people who wouldn't have exhausted all their money on gifts (like us desis) when shops are trying to get rid of the surplus inventory after the festivals.
But I guess apart from the "deals" its more to do with the excitement and fun of being part of the crazy shopper crowd. I mean who otherwise would get up at 4 in the morning in -2 degree Celsius temp. to go and stand in the line only to save some money on the things you can do very well without!
Monday following Black Friday is called as "cyber monday", obvious meaning being online deals. Everything you can think of is one click away, plus there are more options available, but it surely isn't as much fun!! For my dear non-shopper friends the analogy would be: Same as the difference between watching six flags ad on TV and actually getting your stomach jolted on a freaky roller coaster!
Anyway, now looking forward to after-Xmas sale with the ever-ready list of things to buy :)
